HOT TIP
-
-
- PGE Rolling Blackouts and Power Failures.
-
With the current rolling blackouts,
power failures and voltage spikes becoming widespread, it is important
to take some safety measures to protect both your system and your
data.
-
A high quality surge suppresser is a
good investment. These will act as a sacrificial device, taking
the impact from most line surges. A large surge can cause
the suppresser to go up in smoke. Better the surge suppresser
than the computer!
-
If you experience any power failures,
pull the computer system power cords from their outlets until the
power has returns. If you cannot reach the power cords, you
should at least turn off the power switches on your surge suppressers
as well as on the computer during the failure. This inhibits any
surges due to power grid restarts from damaging your computer components
and data files.
-
An Uninterruptible Power Supply or UPS
Backup Battery System will provide 110 Volt AC to your system
immediately upon any power failure. The UPS will provide a
few minutes (or more) of power, and are not intended to run your
system for extended periods of time. This will prevent Windows
from having to restart due to short power fluctuations, and there is
time to save files and shut down the system gracefully during a full
outage.
